Church at the Well Artists’ Retreat 2014
August 7 – 10. The Old Hotel, Lincoln, VT

Time. The inn will open to arrivals at 4pm on Thursday, August 7. Those who want to start working earlier on Thursday often spend time at the Bristol Bakery in nearby Bristol. Check-out is 11am on Sunday, August 10.

Program. No workshops are provided during the retreat. The point of the artists’ retreat is to provide a hospitable and supportive space for you to work on . . . whatever it is you want to work on. Many of our attendees find this to be an extremely productive time. On Friday and Saturday night, we have a campfire and hold an open mic type event, creating an opportunity to share something from our work. We will also offer an opportunity to participate in a couple of organized conversations about the creative process and its relationship to a life of faith.

Food. We all chip in to make meals happen. Breakfast and lunch are informal affairs. Dinners and Sunday brunch take volunteers to cook and clean up. On Thursday night, attendees will sign up for cooking and cleaning responsibilities. Please let Kevin know if you have any requirements or dietary restrictions.

Cost. We are able to provide this retreat, including 3 nights’ lodging and all food for $135. Normally, a one-night stay at the Old Hotel costs $90, so this is a great deal. In order to provide this rate, we do ask attendees to share rooms. If you have a friend with whom you would be comfortable sharing a room, please let Kevin know. This is a great help. We may be able to offer a reduced rate to campers and part-time attendees, but we are only able to make that available when the inn is full. You can reserve your spot with a $50 deposit. Checks should be made out to Church at the Well (or The Well). 81 St. Paul Street. Burlington, VT 05401.

Stuff. What should I bring? Towels and linens are provided. There is a swimming hole across the street, and you will want to bring a beach towel and bathing suit. There is ample space to throw a Frisbee, and there are great opportunities for hiking and walking nearby. The Lincoln General Store is a short walk from the inn, which is a great help to those of us who forget toiletries or sunscreen. Alcohol is permitted, however we expect that its consumption is limited, showing respect for the rest of the group.

Accommodations. There are a few single rooms, but several of the rooms at the inn are doubles. Please let me Kevin know if there is an attendee with whom you would be comfortable sharing a room. This makes it significantly easier to fit everyone into the hotel.
