Rooted in Christ

In this sermon, Adam shares three reasons for being rooted in Christ, and teaches how to go about putting down roots in Christ.

Proverbs 12:3 (MSG) – You can’t find firm footing in a swamp, but life rooted in God stands firm.

Jeremiah 17:7-8 (NIV) – But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.

Ephesians 3:17 (NLT) – Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.

Colossians 2:6-7a (NIV) – So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith…

John 15:4-5 (NIV) – Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me. Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.

Discussion Questions:

  1. Locate a tree close by and imagine what its underground root system looks like. How does this image help you understand what being rooted in God looks like?
  2. Look over the Bible verses above. Is there one that you’re drawn to today? Why?
  3. Is there a particular way that Jesus lived or taught us to live that you’d like to practice this coming week?
